Professional Medical Coding Education

Pat has extensive experience in Coding and Billing, over thirty-five years in the field of healthcare providing technical expertise on coding and compliance related issues. Pat currently works as Senior Director, Coding, Compliance, and Credentialing for Riverside Medical Group; a 700 plus, multi-specialty provider group located in Newport News, Virginia. Her duties include over site of training, auditing, coding, provider education, and third-party payor compliance and documentation.

Pat holds multiple certifications; Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Professional Coder-Hospital (COC), Licensed and Approved Professional Medical Coding Instructor (CPC-I) and Certified ICD-10-CM trainer through the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). Pat also holds specialty credentials in Evaluation and Management Coding (CEMC), Auditing (CPMA) and Compliance (CPCO). She is an active member of the local coding chapter in Newport News, Peninsula Professional Coders where she has held multiple officer positions. Pat also is a member of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and is credentialed as a Certified Coding Specialist – Provider based (CCS-P).

Pat provides educational classes and coding consulting services through her company, Pat Cox – Professional Medical Coding Education, LLC. Her passion is education, she has been teaching medical certification classes since 2000. She serves as a current representative on the Provider Outreach and Education Advisory Group committee for Palmetto (POEAG-Jurisdiction 11 Part B). She is an active member of the Newport News chapter of AAPC – Peninsula Professional Coders, and a frequent speaker at coding events. She was awarded the Virginia Coder of the Year designation in 2006.
